Writing Subject Lines for Email Marketing Campaigns
Hi, my name is Natalie Berberet. I'm the E-mail Coordinator and Graphic Designer here at Straight North. Today I'm going to talk about some great tips on how to write a subject line for an email marketing campaign. The first, be relevant but build intrigue. You want to give enough information that they know what the email is about, but withold enough that they actually read the email once they open it. Spam filters can be tough to work around, but here are two tricks that will help. First of all, avoid punctuation. Question marks and exclamation points can usually get your email blocked. It's not worth the risk. The other thing is to avoid trigger words such as "new" and "free". Those words will definitely block your email. Try using synonyms that will express the same message, but won't be blocked. I also like to run an a/b split test. This means I pick the two best subject lines, and I send it to a portion of the list. After running it for about an hour, whichever one has a higher open rate and click rate, that's the one I pick and send to the rest of the list. That way, overall, you will have a higher open rate and a more successful email marketing campaign. As you can see, writing an effective subject line is a key component to any successful email marketing campaign. My name is Natalie Berberet, and if you have any questions with writing subject lines or email marketing in general, please feel free to contact me here at Straight North.
