WordPress Thesis Ideal for DIY SEO
The Thesis Theme Makes WordPress SEO Even Better
Because WordPress has such strong out-of-the-box SEO performance, it makes an excellent web publishing platform for small and mid sized firms that need search engine visibility but don’t have massive budgets for SEO development or paid search campaigns.
Recently the talented Jesse Petersen completed a customized Thesis install on my blog. (Take a look at WordPress Thesis here.) My new design has been getting rave reviews, but to tell the truth, my main interest in converting to Thesis was to take advantage of its SEO enhancements.
With Thesis, key SEO components of blog posts and static web pages can be customized with ease, including -
- Title Tags
- Meta Descriptions
- Meta Keywords
- Nonindexing
- Alt Text for Images
I’ve started to customize the title tags and meta descriptions for my most important static pages and blog posts from my archives that probably would attract readers if people could find them via search. The SEO tweaks should make a difference – I’ll be tracking it carefully over the next few months.
For non-programmers (like me), Thesis makes many design changes possible without knowing any code. Font styles and sizes can be changed on the fly, and widgets make sidebar additions and formatting relatively simple.
Some folks don’t like the idea of paying for a WordPress theme when thousands of free designs are readily available. I was in that camp for a long time myself. But, the cost for Thesis is quite reasonable, and if generates enough SEO juice for just one or two more conversions a year or even a moderate increase in site traffic, the investment is more than covered.
If you’re a Thesis user, what’s your experience been?

There’s nothing wrong with paying for premium if it gets you what quickly and effectively. I’ll probably get a paid ebook cover creator myself – I can make ebook covers via photoshop but time certainly is money.
The search engines really seem to like WordPress built websites. The plug ins for WP SEO really help in allowing others to find your website.

Recently upgraded to Thesis and I love it !
I’m “patiently” awaiting Thesis 1.6 this week.

I have built my site on Thesis and would reccomend it over other free themes I have tried. The money spent is recouped in saved hassle and better SEO – especially if you are producing commercial sites.
