Group Project–What’s Your Favorite Business Book?
Do you have a favorite business book? One that really made an impression on you? I’d love to compile a list of blogger favorites.
If you’d like, write a post about your favorite book on your blog. Link to this post, and I’ll link back to yours as I update the list. Some things I’d enjoy learning from you–
1. (Of course) the name of the book and author.

‘Think & Grow Rich’ by Napoleon Hill – the classic business book IMO…

“The Long Tail” by Chris Anderson is a wonderful book. I read it the first week it came out after speaking at a conference right after Anderson spoke.
It is great to read the book and be thinking about how to apply Anderson’s ideas to Web based PR and Marketing.

Brad, I think ANY book by Harry Beckwith is good, but especially, “Selling the Invisible”. No one thing pops out at me as making a large chage in my thinking, but each short chapter has a suscinct point or tip that you can use immediately.
This is a good group project. I’ve just posted my entry.

Not appropriate to leave it on my blog but here goes….
After much reflection, I realized there is only one answer: The Godfather, by Mario Puzo. Not a traditional business book, to be sure, but just think about some of the amazing lessons:
1. Competition breeds innovation. (Everyone else is into prostitution? Let’s smuggle guns!)
2. Peaceful coexistence is more profitable than war…but when the time comes, don’t be afraid to go to the mattresses.
3. A good attorney can help you get away with…well, murder.
And my favorite for survival in corporate America…
4. Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.
That’s just scratching the surface. Think about the lessons for succession in a family-run business, expansion into new territories, franchising, etc. You could do a whole book on the topic.
I agree with the suggestion about Beckwith’s books. Loved all four of them!
