Did You Ever Want to Be the Somethingest Something?
Image by foxypar4 via FlickrWhen I was in high school, I wanted to be the best shot putter in my high school’s history. (I’m not making this up.) In the end, I fell a couple feet short, but it was a thrill having the dream.
How about you? Did you ever want to be the somethingest something in something? Did you ever have that kind of dream … or are you having it now?

I am rather ashamed to say that the Miss World contest was one of my favourites when I was a lass – and I so wanted to try on that crown!

Jackie, Why ashamed? It beats wanting to look like a shot putter!

Brad, shot putter?
Very cool fact! I had dreams of being a famous actress, these days I just want to be the best Karen D. Swim I can be (see how far I lowered the bar).

Hi Karen, Personally, I like the path you are on. We’d all hate to lose you to Hollywood.

Yeah, I wanted to be the best at everything I do and do something big, but not related to fame. Ah, the curse of perfectionism and being driven.
At the moment, I’d like to come up with a brilliant resource / web site or write for TV Guide without moving to CA or NY.

Meryl, Congratulations for keeping your dreams alive. Seems like now would be the time to achieve your goal without moving. Digital media allows you to stay connected from almost anywhere.
Brad Shorrs last blog post..Did You Ever Want to Be the Somethingest Something?
Brad, ahhhh, thanks for that!
Meryl, writing for TV Guide would be a dream job! You can do it and as Brad said, the virtual workforce is in vogue these days, heck they’re making movies in Michigan now so anything is possible!
Karen Swims last blog post..Simply the Best?
Brad, I think yes is the answer, but I don’t quite know what the thing is yet!
It’s a great question.

Like to be a tennis champ in the local tourneys, but yet to find a partner as I prefer doubles. 10 weeks off from tennis doesn’t help.
TV Guide — I never pursue the magazines. Not a good query gal and I get more done with the work I do. Queries are never a guaranteed assignment. I don’t know why I have an ability to remember facts about actors, shows, etc. I couldn’t really watch TV until my 20s. Captions came along in 1983, but few shows were captioned until the ’90s.
Karen, yeah Hollywood might try to mess with what we love about you.
Brad, I threw the shotput and discus in middle school. Got a couple of ribbons even. How dorky is that when I am a girl? Of course, only two of us did that for our middle school.

I remember telling my grandma and grandpa about my dreams.
Firstly, I wanted to be a professional Australian Rules football player during the winter as well as captain of the Australian cricket team in the summer (cricket is the most popular summer sport in Australia).
Oh yes, and lest I forget, I was going to win Wimbledon as well as being a famous golfer.
Then came my political and musical ambitions, where I wanted to be Prime Minister of Australia as well as being more famous than Beethoven as a composer.
Upon hearing about my dreams, my dear old grandfather said to me “Andrew, you have every opportunity to become as good at Beethoven at composing music, but he no longer has the opportunity to match your cricket level.”
Right now, I think Karen’s dream sounds right on the money. I also like Merryl’s tennis ambitions, although personally, I will have to settle for winning a junior tournament when I was eleven.
Andrews last blog post..A personal note on last week’s post
Meryl, Shot put and discus was sort of dorky even for the guys. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
Andrew, You have such a broad range of interests! Perhaps that is your gift.

Hi Brad – since I was very young, I also wanted to be a novelist – hopefully that will still happen.
But I also wanted to be Wonder Woman, The Bionic Woman, or one of Charlie’s Angels – basically someone who kicks the bad guy’s ass.
Cath Lawsons last blog post..Time Is Running Out
Cath! My best friend and I always pretended we were two of the Charlie’s Angels. No one ever wanted to be Sabrina. Poor Kate Jackson. We also did Bionic Woman. I think I turned out more like Bionic Woman thanks to my bionic ear (www.meryl.net/ci)
I’d never look like an angel.

Brad,
one of my wildest dreams was or is still to see my name published together with an article on the weekly newspaper “Die Zeit”. “Die Zeit” is a weekly for intellectuals, and all the authors know how to write about complicated things in a way almost everybody can understand.
Ulla Hennigs last blog post..Simply the Best
Cath, I can definitely see you as Wonder Woman.
Meryl, I think you could pull it off, too.
Ulla, I’ve heard of “Die Zeit” Sounds like it would be like getting a cartoon in “The New Yorker”, every cartoonist’s dream. I wish you luck and I hope you do it one day. Perhaps accompanied by one of your photos!

Brad,
thanks for your wishes! Yes, you are right with your comparison: “Die Zeit” is absolutely high class. But what about you getting a cartoon in “The New Yorker”?
Ulla Hennigs last blog post..Simply the Best
Ulla, that would be beyond a dream come true.
Brad Shorrs last blog post..A Head Turner from Middle Zone Musings
Well, we can still dream our dreams – can’t we? I would like to see one of your cartoons in one of your next posts – I really enjoy them!

Ulla, There will be a cartoon next week. Your wish is granted!

Meryl, I on the other hand always wanted to be Sabrina. Though I’d forgotten that till I read your comment. Thanks for the happy reminder.
Joanna Youngs last blog post..Simply The Best: Reminder
Meryl and Joanna, I wanted to be Sabrina too! I liked that she was smart and unfussy.
