Storytelling with 4 Panel Business Cartoons

Posted by:

Four panel business cartoons are fun to write, because you can tell more of a story. And – compared to a one panel cartoon, you can be four times as silly. Here are a couple 4-panel efforts written by me and drawn by Mark Hill that I dug out of the archives.

Feel free to use them on your blog – just include a link back to Straight North, please.

The golf cartoon features Dr. Longshanks, a character many of you may identify with.

The bowling cartoon features Hondo Hudson, the wild cowboy CFO of my defunct fake company, Mold Unlimited.

  1. Ha! And nice of you to share. :)

  2. Brad,
Enjoyed your cartoons – thanks for sharing!

  3. Brad,

Correct me if I am wrong, but as far as I am aware, it is well accepted within the marketing profession that emotions have a much stronger impact upon consumer purchasing behavior (and no doubt, businesses purchasing behavior as well) than logic.

Given this, and combined with the fact that pictures in general have a much greater emotional impact than words, not to mention the refreshing degree of simplicity and fun which people often with cartoon related stories, it is no surprise to me to hear that in the right situation, the four panel model to which you refer above could certainly prove to be an effective advertising tool.

  4. Andrew, Of course you are right. We tend to use logic to justify our decisions, but emotion plays an enormous role in the decision itself. I think this is why podcasts and video have become so popular online. Given the same content, those media pack more emotion than the written word.
