Hi Annabel, thanks for your comment here and in part 2. I'd have to say your comment works both ways: I'm glad Robin and I aren't the only people thinking this way! I'm interested to hear your ideas on the topic - are you planning to blog about it?

Very interesting reading. I have been considering these ideas by myself and come up with some related and similar ideas. It's great to see that I'm not the only one thinking like this. Well done Brad for increasing your business via your blog and building up a team of sales people through it. Robin - I can't wait to see where all this experimentation leads you!

Karen, I'm thrilled you are joining in this conversation - there's so much that can be said and needs to be said about blogging focus. You've touched on a few points that we'll continue to explore in the next installment ... but the "indirect" audience and purposes you brilliantly describe are very important and tend to be overlooked ... by myself, for instance!

Brad, wonderful dialog and pertinent for me. I have personally discovered that even when you get clear on your focus, that can change. A community may rise up to meet you that you never expected. One of the benefits of a business blog is that when new clients research you (or have their staff research) your content serves as a testament to your expertise. In that sense your day to day may be teaching and leading those who may not directly hire you (although they may be referrers). Your site can also help you to land other writing assignments in publications that your target audience does read. There are many metrics to blogging success and it is not all measured in the comment boxes.
