Hey Brad,

You're welcome.

I probably spend more time than most on Twitter, and curating my Twitter community. Couple recent events demonstrated how important my Twitter network is, it just kind of clicked so it seems in my best interest to keep doing what I've been doing. When I think it's a time suck, something happens that says "No it's not!" Who am I to argue? ;)

Hi Gwynne, Thanks for your comment. I admire your willingness to really vet your Twitter community - I find it to be a very time consuming task. My feelings about Twitter connections are much like yours, but I've gotten lax in monitoring my connections day to day. Lately I've been using Tweepi to cleanse my account every month or so. Not ideal, but semi-efficient at least.

I recently followed a few people, got automated thank you DMs and was then promptly unfollowed so I couldn't respond. Not wanting to rush to judgment, I monitored their Twitter stream for a day or two before deciding to unfollow.

Needless to say, I've become picky about those whom I follow. I don't mind if people follow me; I like to think I do a fairly good job of blocking and/or reporting spammers. But if I'm going to follow you, there must be something worthwhile, something beneficial, be it potential business (been looking for a website developer & some other business help), article contributions, discussion, opinions, introductions...something. It doesn't matter if it's a benefit to me or someone I know (I've connected a number of people via Twitter), as long as there is a benefit.

One of the things I like about Twitter is the ability to interact with so many different people. I try to maintain a variety, which has been challenging and interesting. I like hearing different opinions, different view points and being able to argue in 140 characters or less. It presents exposure to variety I may not otherwise get.

Such is my two cents.

I assume it will be the same as with email and facebook... the schemers continue to exist and we have to adopt tools and filters to pretend they don't.

Thanks for the kind words and subscribing. I appreciate it. I've been enjoying your writing as well.

Hi Fred, Thanks for visiting and commenting! TweetDeck is a fabulous tool, which lately I feel I am grossly under utilizing. What do you suppose is the end game of Twitterers who are obsessed with pumping up the numbers? I don't quite get it.

BTW, like your blog - just subscribed!

Great conversation. I found using a reader (like TweetDeck) helps keep various conversations in context. So different 'social' circles start showing up as different threads. I am a bit uncomfortable with the folks who seem to follow me simply to try and pump up their own numbers. I followed a few, but the comments seemed to be focused on... pumping up your numbers. Not much of interest there.

Hi Brad and great list over here! I'd add that I'm inclined not to follow people that don't seem to interact: no replies or retweets whatsoever.

Hi Ricardo, It seems more reasonable to follow everyone on Twitter than to be ultra selective, but yes, I don't see the point of 10,000 follows. (Maybe there is no point to Twitter, in a business sense?)
