4 Qualities of 4-Star Sales People

Top notch sales people have a lot in common. Here are 4 qualities almost all of them share.

  • Attention to detail. Average reps paint beautifully with the broad strokes. Great reps usually do that, but where they set themselves apart is on flawless execution of the little stuff.
  • Genuine interest in people. Average reps make a memorable first impression. Great reps usually do that, but they always wear well over time. Why? Because their concern for the customer is real, and it goes deeper than the transaction. Customers come to value the sales person more than what they’re buying.
  • Emotional highs and lows. Average reps stay on an even keel. Great reps can be moody or out and out drama queens. Why is that? Maybe because great reps …
  • Take things personally. Average reps have a job. Great reps have an obsession. They eat, sleep, and drink sales. They never sell enough, never know enough, never try hard enough. They don’t see rejection and internal resistance as “just business”, because business is what they’re all about.
  • Imaginative and fearless. Some average reps have great ideas but can’t put them across. Other average reps can cold call 24/7 but don’t have much to say once they have an ear. Great reps do whatever it takes to get in front of people and then put across business-transforming ideas.
